Ecological Foundation Hosts First Annual Participatory Planning Meeting
by Jake Kheel

The PUNTACANA Ecological Foundation just completed its first annual PUNTACANA Center for Sustainability and Biodiversity Participatory Planning Workshop with representatives from each of its international university partners (20+ participants in total). Over the course of 3 days of meetings each university presented the work they are doing collaboratively with the Ecological Foundation and discussed their plans for the future. The group then met to discuss next steps for creating a unique international intellectual center that conducts research, education, and conservation programs related to sustainable tourism.

The meeting rewarded the participants with some exciting outcomes, most importantly that the group should repeat the meeting and invite strategic national partners to create a resource for the Dominican Republic for collaboration, capacity-building and knowledge-sharing with distinguished international institutions. The second meeting is in planning now and will be held in late October or early November.
